Abstract
The paper reports a CFD model and experimental results to address the collection efficiency (η) of mono-dispersed (100-1000nm) nanoparticle (spherical). The experiment was performed using a single spherical bubble in a laminar fluid flow environment. The main focus of this research is to solve the nanoparticle as an advection-diffusion problem and discrete particle model (DPM) and compare the results with the experimentalη. Prediction of the flow around a solid sphere and an advection-diffusion problem were compared with the pressure coefficient and collection efficiency data respectively. The diffusivity of nanoparticle was calculated using Einstein equation. It was concluded that neither convection-diffusion is not a dominant phenomena, nor is the inertia. It is hoped that the Brownian diffusion would be the answer which is yet to develop using a user defined function in the commercial software, Fluent. This approach of transport of nanoparticle is a fundamental approach as it deals with the accurate solution around a rising bubble and none of the computational models are tuned to match the experimental data for a plume of bubbles.
