this paper discusses the principle of the flying hot-wire (FHW) method. the procedure is discussed in terms of 3 different probe paths and related probe velocity: linier, circulat and curvrlinear. A common signal analysis procedure for the evaluation of the relative velocity from the X probe signals is also presented. finally, results from measurements in the separated region behind a backward facing step is presented.
