Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of open source elearning system and the integration of content development with SCORM compliance in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) e-Learning system. As the technology evolves and the need for open source environment arises, a new paradigm is needed to allow E-Learning to move into this open source environment. The objective of implementing open source and content development in the developed UTP’s E-Learning system is mainly to help initiate an advance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment for teachers and learners. The development processes apply traditional information system development methodology and analyzing a few open source programs. Moodle system was chosen as E-Learning system that appears to be one of the most user-friendly and flexible open source courseware products available and is evolving towards IMS/SCORM standards. The integration of developed course module with SCORM will allow reusability of the course content and management.
