Abstract

Abstract—In this study, the dynamic analysis of a classic spar was investigated both numerically and experimentally in random wave combined with current. The motion res-ponses in surge, heave, and pitch have been evaluated. The spar platform was modeled as a rigid body connected to the sea floor by multi-component catenary mooring lines. The wave force calculations were based on the Morison Equa-tion applied at the instantaneous position of the structure. Experimentally, the classic spar model to a scale of 1:100 was tested in random wave combined with current. The trends of the results were similar and the magnitudes fairly close, thus validating the accuracy of the numerical model.
