Abstract

Construction productivity is an important indicator for construction growth of a country. Productivity is usually measured by production rate obtained by dividing the output with input. The unit for production rate in construction is usually indicated as (m/m2/m3)/hour. Production rate is affected by various direct and indirect factors. Normally, the duration of a project is estimated by the project manager using his judgment based on experience or standard database produced by the contractor. The objectives of this research are to collect the primary production rates data for substructure works at on-going construction sites. In this study, direct observational technique will be used to extract the primary data on production rate and the data will be analyzed using statistical computer tool.To make the data reliable, the data are averaged out from the observationat construction site. Currently, there is absence of formal database of Malaysian construction production rates that has been published for assisting construction personnel in predicting the period of construction projects. This problem lead to give motivation for this study.
