Abstract
This paper presents various signal parameters in order to estimate the distance between various Bluetooth sensors. In Bluetooth specifications there is no proper support and parameter defined for distance base estimations. The specifications only provide three different types of signal
parameters, which can be used for distance related
measurements, which are Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), Link Quality (LQ) and Transmitted Power Level (TPL). The main contribution of this paper is to identify and analyse the parameter for distance related measurements.
Based on our experimental observation when compared with
the radio propagation model, we have verified and concluded
that Received power level (RX power level) can be
considered best parameter for distance based estimations.
The advantage of calculating the parameter for distance
based measurements is to define the parameter for indoor
positioning in Bluetooth networks.
