Abstract

The contamination caused by various harmful substances in wastewater generated from different sources leads to environmental concern and endangerment for living organisms as the effluent will be discharged into water bodies resulting in water pollution. The discharge limit of wastewater characteristics is defined according to each organization to control the effluent quality to be disposed of at a safe level. Hence, the appropriate treatment process is essential prior to releasing wastewater into a natural waterway. As traditional treatment processes typically require high energy input and chemical consumption, which causes secondary pollution, green technologies have been explored as a sustainable management solution to efficiently purify wastewater and vanquish the issue of a larger carbon footprint from conventional processes. The wastewater production from several sources, traditional wastewater management, and green technologies will then be reviewed in this chapter. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Imran Ahmad individual chapters, the contributors.
