The ever-increasing use of fossil fuels has contributed to a massive increase in the global concentration of the main greenhouse gas, namely, carbon dioxide (CO2). Methanol synthesis via CO2 catalytic conversion for the reduction of the greenhouse gas concentration and production of renewable energy has attracted considerable attention. Several studies of this conversion process have been reported in the open literature over the last few decades looking for a solution to the numerous issues that have remained unaddressed. However, CO2 is very stable, making its activation technically problematic and challenging. Therefore, a catalyst system needs to be developed to minimize the energy barrier for methanol formation from CO2. This chapter highlights the progress and development of research on the catalytic conversion of CO2 into methanol, explicitly focusing on CuZnO-based catalyst, catalyst activity, and the impact of process variables on the formation of products. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
