Abstract

This paper presents the study of the measurement of chloride permeability index in terms of total charge passed through different concrete at an applied voltage of 12,
30 and 60 volts. The procedure of measurement of total charge passed at 30 and 60 volts is being commonly used despite the criticism on the accuracy of the measurement of chloride ion movements. Results of total charge passed as
obtained from current passing on 100 mm diameter and 25 mm thick concrete discs during 24 hours at an applied voltage of 12 volts were found compatible with the results of the total charge passed on the concrete discs as obtained by the standard tests performed at 30 volts and 60 volts. Fly ash blended cement concrete has shown between 75% to 110 % higher resistance against the chloride movements in concrete as compared to the chloride movements in 100% ope concrete.
