Abstract

Seasonally varied model (SVM) was developed to operate a cascading four hydroelectric power reservoirs with the concept of refill and depletes ranking orders. The analysis was performed by dividing the critical period into four states of the reservoir. A specific model was developed for each state to maximize the total annual hydroelectric power generation from the cascading scheme. With equal annual volume of releases, the newly developed operation rule based on SVM improved the long-term historical average (HA) hydroelectric power generated of the scheme by 2%. Moreover, the overall plant factor was also improved from 39.46% to 40.25%. It is equivalent to 4.56 MW per day.
