Abstract

New results for a series of imidazolium-based dicationic ionic liquids (DCILs) with a
fixed cationic backbone and anionic structure and with a variety of alkyl chain length
have been synthesized via the reaction of N-alkylimidazole (which synthesized by
elimination reaction of substituted quaternary ammonium salts) and 1,6-
dibromohexane. The structures confirmed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
Physical properties of the synthesized DCILs were measured by using thermal
gravimetric analysis (TGA), density meter and refractometer. It was found that the
density of the product decreased by increasing the alkyl chain in the imidazoliumbased
DCILs.
