Abstract

In this study we integrated geophysical and remote sensing techniques to detect evidence for archaeological features and environmental setting in Lenggong, Perak, Malaysia. SPOT multispectral data was used in the present analysis. Image classification technique was adopted for categorizing land use/ land cover of the study area. The accuracy of the classified map was assessed using reference ground data. Magnetic measurements were carried out along selected lines and a magnetic map was then generated. Surface elevation readings in the surveyed were also taken using a GPS instrument and were later used to create the corresponding terrain elevation map. The classified remote sensing image was overlaid with the magnetic and elevation maps to produce a comprehensive map of the archaeological site. Subsurface targets were also mapped using electrical resistivity imaging technique. Detailed interpretation was made based on the results from the combined technique. The result of the study indicates that this integrated approach has the capability of retrieving useful archaeological information from the study area.
