Abstract

The outright understanding of tensile test can furnish details about the pseudo-ductility of High Density polyethylene nano composite.Non-rigid filler particles render a soft composite limiting the applications of a polymer composite while non-treated rigid filler particles compromises the uniform morphology resulting deficient mechanical properties. Therefore, tensile testing of hybrid high density polyethylene was performed using ASTM D638 type I in order to study the pseudo-ductility.In this study, four samples of different weight percentages 0,5,10,30 were tested after fabrication via melt compounding. The phenomenon of stress softening, debonding of filler/matrix were discussed for the hybrid composites after the tensile test. The results obtained indicated that both non-treated fillers can act in synergy, not only to increase the strength but also retain the ductility to a substantial amount in pure polymer.Reinforcement of polymer with the combination of non-treated inorganic fillers of different microstructural lay out proved to be an unprecedented approach for high strength and reasonable ductility.Additionally, morphological analysis indicated that an artful combination of fillers having different microstructural layout can render the function of solid compatiblizers. Moreover, the inhomogeneity can be minimized by application of nano clay. © 2023, Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn Bhd.
