Abstract

The impact of corrosion on the integrity of electronic components brought upon by the air composition in salty environment can present ramifications such as a short circuit. This report proposes a new electronic protection system to be incorporated within the electronic lighting ballast for application in saltwater environment, activating to break the power supply only when an excessive current flow is detected inside the ballast. To achieve this, simulation is carried out using MATLAB SIMULINK to emulate the working nature of an electronic lighting ballast, as well as to measure the integrability of the electronic protection system within the ballast. The hardware implementation of this project has also yielded satisfying results. © 2014 IEEE.
