Abstract

In the present work three different ionic liquids have been synthesized and dissolution of bamboo biomass was carried out in these ionic liquids. It has been observed that only one synthesized amino acid-based ionic liquid (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium serinate) was capable of dissolving the biomass completely. After the dissolution in ionic liquids, it was regenerated with reconstitute solvent (acetone/water). The regenerated materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and compared with untreated bamboo biomass. The regenerated material was found to be more homogenous macrostructure. During the dissolution and regeneration process the crystallinity of cellulose change from cellulose Ι to cellulose ΙΙ crystalline form.
