Abstract

Currently in a university in Malaysia, students were required to undergo 8 months of Industrial Training program as an exposure to the real working life. During this period, students were expected to apply their knowledge, skills and experience in designated area. Aware that this knowledge is valuable, students were required to explicitly document their knowledge in the form of logbook which then will be kept in university’s Information Resource Center (IRC) for public access. However, the current method caused the knowledge to dissipate and loss due to inaccessibility of the documents whenever it is needed. Thus the objective of this paper is to exploit the web 2.0 technology to capture and store this knowledge for others to use it. Additionally, this knowledge portal which called Industrial Internship Program(IIP) provides functions such as knowledge sharing medium, reuse and store knowledge related to Industrial Training. This portal adopted KM framework procedure as the methodology. The outcome of this portal is to improve the knowledge access and sharing as well as communication through effective collaboration, enhancing the knowledge environment and managing knowledge as an asset for the academic community.
