Abstract

Questionnaires approach was adopted in order to study the perception and awareness of construction productivity in Sabah. With properly designed questions and analyzation on the responds, would lead to useful results. The respondents would give their opinions without hesitation, as no identification was required on the survey. The respondents chosen for this study were identified and to have related experience on construction works; management from headquarters and construction site, engineering design, site supervision and others. The respondents would state their work category, work experience and location of works as required. Five questions were asked to determine the respondent’s understanding on the construction productivity that include the basic definition of the construction productivity, room for productivity improvement with regard to the type of works, factors affecting on the construction productivity, methods to be applied for productivity improvement, and the direct result achieved from the productivity improvement. Respondents were also to give their perception on whether Malaysian construction industry should treat productivity improvement as an important matter and to be of a major concerned. Issues related to the construction productivity such as the management, engineering, manpower, quality and safety, as well as environmental and authority’s requirements were required to be ranked by the degree of influence based from the respondent’s opinion. Respondents were given a chance to give comments on the subject matter at the end of the questionnaires. From the feedback received, conclusion were made on the degree of perception and awareness of construction productivity in Sabah, and this would help to improve the industry not just to Sabah, but to the Malaysian construction industry as a whole.
